If you’re wondering what we get up to in our swimming sessions, these photos will give you some insight!
On a Tuesday evening we coach our ladies at an outdoor heated pool in chesham for an hour. At this time of year the athletes wear wetsuits to make sure they don’t get too cold. Whilst the water is warm, the air is 1’C!
Each week we focus on a different aspect of the front crawl stroke and a different training technique.
We break the stroke down into catch, pull, body position, rotation and open water skills. Our sessions are either endurance, technique, or speed sessions based on athlete critical swim speed (CSS).
Tonight we focused on body position in the water and there are a few factors involved in ensuring there is minimal drag during the stroke. So we worked on leg kick (kicking from the glutes, soft ankles) and body postion to ensure the head doesn’t lift too much whilst taking a breath.
These photos were taken when I dragged them out of the pool for 5 minutes to 1) feel the glutes working during simulated leg kick and 2) simulated body rotation to assist with arm recovery and head position.
They soon got back into the water for some sprints to warm up again!
