It’s cold dark and grey out there....how are you motivating yourself to exercise?
January 27, 2018
For me, it’s a state of mind and usually unless I get outside early in the day, my motivation just disappears.
A few tips to make sure still get outdoors through the winter:
Plan your week and make sure you fit in your workouts into sensible and achievable timeslots each day.
If it’s an early morning session, get your kitbag ready by the door, put your sports kit on immediately and get out there before you have time to change your mind!
Make a date with a friend to train together or join a club. If it’s something you have paid for you are more likely to turn up, regardless of the weather or other ‘priorities ‘.
If the weather isn’t too favourable, give yourself a good talking to: it’s just a bit of cold, wind or wet and once you get going you know you’ll be warm. If you have the right clothing you’ll be fine and you can soon enough get into a lovely hot shower or bath once you’re back home.
Remind yourself of the reason you are doing it, and how much better you’ll feel when you’ve completed the session, how smug you’ll feel when your friends have just sat indoors and moaned about the terrible weather, and how guilty you’d feel if you hadn’t gone out!
